The Kawakawa, name Piper methysticum, belongs to the family of pepper. The Kawakawa grows in the Pacific Islands. This plant was prized by the ancient Maori for its medicinal properties. It was used for a multitude of different pains, and the leaves were used in beverage.
The Kumarahou belongs to the Rhamnaceae Buckthorn family (Pomaderris kumeraho), Bush appreciated by the ancient Maori, leaves and flowers are very bitter and produce a foam when they are rubbed or mixed with water. Fresh leaves of Kumarahou were applied on wounds.
The Kohukohu belongs to the family of Pittosporum (Pittosporum tenuifolium) plant also appreciated by Maori elders to treat certain skin diseases.
